Enrollment packets are distributed or can be downloaded only when enrollment is open. Packets must be submitted by a deadline to be considered for admission. A complete enrollment packet includes:
  • Personal and contact information about the student, the student's parent or guardian, and emergency contacts.
  • An essay by the student explaining why the student wants to enroll in the program.
  • Student test scores on the COMPASS Entry Assessment Exam, administered by Washtenaw Community College.
  • Proof of high school course completion.
  • Proof of current immunizations.
  • Proof of citizenship.
  • Proof of residency.
  • Consent to the educational policies of both WTMC and WCC.
  • Copies of records describing the student's unique educational needs.

Selection for Enrollment

The total enrollment of WTMC is limited by the Washtenaw Community College. Students graduate as they complete their programs of study, so the number of available openings in WTMC is an estimate from semester to semester. The enrollment priorities of the school are governed by state law and by its charter. WTMC's enrollment priorities are:
  1. All currently enrolled students who will be returning to WTMC in the following school year.
  2. Siblings (not extended family members) of currently enrolled WTMC students.
  3. Students who currently reside in Washtenaw County.
  4. Students who currently reside outside of Washtenaw County.
If the number of eligible students who submit complete enrollment packets to the school office by the deadline is larger than the estimated number of available slots for the incoming cohort, a lottery will be held. Using a lottery as a method of selection is required by Michigan law. Separate lotteries will be held for Washtenaw County residents and out of county residents.

The lottery will determine who is eligible to enroll in the program and who will be placed on a wait list. The wait list will remain in effect until the end of the first week of the semester. After the first week, no new students will be admitted for the semester.

Before Admission

If you choose to enroll in WTMC, you are required to complete the remaining steps of the enrollment process. Failure to complete the remaining steps of the process will result in your slot being offered to a student on the wait list. The rest of the enrollment process consists of:
  • Mandatory WTMC Student Skill Assessment. This assessment helps the faculty in scheduling students into the proper college preparatory class.
  • Mandatory Student-Parent Intake Interviews - Conversation with the Dean in a small group allows students and parents to ask questions of individual concern. Students or parents are responsible for making an appointment.
  • Mandatory Student-Parent Orientation - In August, just before school begins, students have a chance to meet their instructors and other students. Parents meet their students' BASE teachers.
